Like most suburban houses, our house is roughly in the center of our lot, dividing the lot into four yards: front, back and two sides. Each yard is further divided into several planting areas or beds. Some of the beds are arranged in rows; in others the term “row” is used to designate some region of the bed, even though it may not be a linear row.
The house faces due south, so the front yard, between the house and the street, has a southern exposure.
